City officials were inviting them all to the capital’s huge central plaza later today to break the world record for the most people kissing at one time. The idea was “to show that warmth and love” are at the heart of the Mexican Republic. Another aim was showing the love during a violent time in Mexico’s war on drug traffickers. More than 6,000 people died in drug related violence last year.

The city tourism office expected more than 35,000 take part in the occasion. And amazing news is that it makes a noise to the lovers of Mexicans. On Valentine’s Day Carlos Martinez of Guinness World Records verified the record of 39,897 people who arrived into the gated kissing zone of the city’s Zocalo central square, in 2007 an English town, besting Weston-super-Mare put the previous world kissing record.

In the event which is also named as Besame Mucho,” or “Kiss Me a Lot”, Mexican singer-actress Susana Zavaleta said, “We did it! Long live Mexico.”

The city’s tourism department, which organized the event, said in a statement,

“More than 35,000 will simultaneously kiss to show that warmth and love are at the core of this capital, the heart of the Mexican Republic.” :eek:
